Fall Break has become part of our family routine while our girls are in college. 2018’s Fall Break Trip was to Franklin, NC. Typically we will steal away overnight Wednesday evening after the girls’ last classes so that we can take advantage of the full break. The cozy cabin we found, situated right by a river was perfect for our fall getaway! It’s lovely to wake on a beautiful fall Thursday morning with days of family fun, hiking, food and beautiful sights ahead of us.
2018’s choice of Franklin and Highlands did not disappoint us. A quick ride up the road from our cabin was beautiful waterfall. We took full advantage of the beauty to snap some fun family photos. A must for a beautiful fall morning for us is a nice hike. The mountain view with the leaves turning was breathtaking! The afternoon was spent in downtown Franklin. We found cute shops, enjoyed lunch at a brewery with a food truck and followed that with an afternoon sweet treat.
Our second day, we traveled just a bit further up the road beyond the waterfall from day one, to Highlands, NC. Another quick hike, followed by lunch and shopping. Highlands was a much busier destination than Franklin, with more high-end shopping and many more restaurant options. We enjoyed visiting both equally.
Our last full day, Saturday, we moved at a slower pace, sleeping in and having breakfast at the cabin, followed by an afternoon back in Franklin at the Pumpkin Festival which, lucky for us, happened to be that weekend.
